The top is a single piece of solid teak left with its natural bark-edge silhouette, so the shape, knots, and grain of the table you receive are one of a kind.

• One live edge slab

  The outline is not cut straight; it follows the natural edge of the tree, bark scars and all, so the silhouette you get is not a rectangle but a shape unique to this piece of wood. Knots and small checks run through the grain instead of being sanded away.

• Three legs, one off center

  Slim black steel hairpin legs hold the slab low to the floor. Two sit under the wide part of the top; the third is set under the narrow tail end, so the base still balances even though the top is not symmetrical.

• Legs attach at home

  The hairpin legs ship separate from the slab and attach once the table is in the room. Assembly needs a Phillips screwdriver, which is not included, and takes one person; there is no other hardware or tools to track down.

• Solid teak, clear lacquer

  The slab is solid wood, a dense teak that holds up well indoors. A clear lacquer finish seals the surface and keeps the grain visible without adding stain color, so the tone you see is the wood's own, not a dye.

• Clearance for stretched out legs

  This sits low, at 17 inches high, so plan clearance between it and the sofa for legroom when you want to stretch your feet out. It is a resting spot for a tray or your feet, not a dining surface with chairs pulled up to it.

• Sturdy enough for daily use

  Weight capacity is listed at 330 pounds, plenty for stacked books, a tray, or feet up after work. The slab itself weighs 55 pounds once the legs are on, heavy enough to stay put but light enough for two people to move.

• A low footprint in the room

  At 40 inches wide and 28 inches deep, the footprint is close to a standard coffee table even though the outline is not a rectangle. Measure your room before you order, since the widest point of the slab can run past where a rectangular top would end.

• Dust and wipe, nothing harsh

  Dust the surface regularly with a dry cloth so grit does not scratch the lacquer. Wipe up spills right away with a damp cloth, and skip ammonia or abrasive cleaners, which can dull the clear finish over time.
