• Eight lights inside the crystal

  Eight sockets stand in a ring inside the crystal drum, which measures 23.6 inches across. Clear faceted rods run vertically in three stacked bands, held by slim gold tone rings, so the bulbs read as scattered light rather than eight bare points.

• A beaded crystal skirt

  Below the frame, a dense curtain of beaded crystal fills the whole underside of the drum. It hides the sockets from anyone sitting under it and breaks the downward light into small points, which is what you see across a table.

• Chain hung, height adjusts

  It hangs on a gold tone chain from a round canopy, not a fixed rod, so the drop is shortened at install to suit the room. There is up to 56.7 inches of hanging length, and the fixture reaches 66.8 inches overall at full extension. It mounts on a sloped ceiling as well as a flat one.

• Hardwired to a ceiling box

  This is a hardwired fixture, not a plug in lamp, so it wires into a ceiling junction box at 120 volts. Have an electrician make the connections, then the round canopy screws up over the box to cover the wiring. Confirm the box is rated to carry the weight of a crystal fixture this size.

• Eight candelabra bulbs

  Each of the eight sockets takes an E12 candelabra base, the small screw base used for candle shaped bulbs, at 40 watts max. Bulbs are not included, so buy eight before install day. Clear bulbs show through the crystal. Frosted ones cut the glare from the sides.

• Dimming takes two parts

  The fixture works on a dimmer, but only if you supply both halves: dimmable candle bulbs and a dimmer switch rated for them. Neither is included here. Standard bulbs on a dimmer will buzz or flicker, so match the bulb to the switch before you wire it up.

• Dry rated for indoor rooms

  This one is rated for dry locations only. It is not damp rated and not wet rated, so keep it out of a bathroom that takes shower steam, and off a covered porch. A dining room, living room, bedroom, stairwell, or entry hall is where it belongs.

• Cleaning the crystal

  Crystal shows dust faster than glass, especially the beaded skirt. Turn the power off, let the bulbs cool, then wipe the rods with a soft, dry cloth. For fingerprints, use a barely damp cloth and dry right away. Keep sprays off the gold tone metal.

• What ships in the box

  In the box: the assembled crystal drum, the beaded skirt, the chain, the canopy, and the mounting hardware. Bulbs are not included. A dimmer switch is not included either. Unpack the crystal over a soft surface, since the rods are the part most likely to chip in transit.
