The bar holds five bulbs, each behind a cuboid shade of four smoky glass panels. Light comes through the ice texture as a warm wash, so the island reads lit without five bare lamps in view.

• Smoky glass, exposed bulb

  Five faceted glass shades hang from a slim black bar with brass stems and caps, each shade smoky gray rather than clear, so the bulb glows through a tinted, ribbed texture instead of bare glass. The bar spans 35.4 inches, sized for a six-seat table or a mid-size kitchen island.

• Bright pinpoints down the bar

  Because the glass is smoky and ribbed rather than clear, each of the five bulbs throws a warm, slightly broken glow straight down rather than a soft diffuse wash. Over an island or table that reads as five distinct pools of light in a row instead of one even glow.

• Hardwired, not plugged in

  This pendant is hardwired, so it needs an electrician to wire it into a ceiling junction box rather than plugged in. The canopy works on a sloped ceiling, and assembly is required to attach the bar, stems, and shades before it goes up.

• Two rods, adjustable chains

  Each end hangs from an adjustable chain at the ceiling that steps down to a rigid rod at the bar, so you set the drop rather than live with a fixed length. The chain runs 59 inches and lets the bar hang anywhere from 22.3 inches up to 79.8 inches of overall height, low over a table or higher in an open room.

• Candelabra bulbs, not included

  Each of the five sockets takes an E12 candelabra bulb rated up to 40 watts, and because the smoky glass is ribbed rather than solid, the bulb shape still shows through, so a decorative filament bulb will look better than a plain one. Bulbs are not included. Dimming needs both a dimmable bulb and a separate dimmer switch, neither included.

• Dry-rated, not wet-rated

  The fixture carries a dry-location rating and an ETL safety listing, which covers kitchens, dining rooms, and other indoor spaces that stay dry. A dry rating is not a damp or wet rating, so keep it away from an uncovered patio or anywhere steam or water could reach the glass and sockets.

• Wipe with a dry cloth

  Wipe the bar, stems, and glass with a dry cloth to clear dust, and avoid glass cleaner or ammonia on the brass hardware, which can dull its finish over time. Turn the fixture off and let the bulbs cool before you dust close to a socket or wipe a shade clean.

• Ships as parts, no bulbs

  The bar, five stems, glass shades, rods, chains, and canopy arrive ready to assemble before mounting; bulbs are not included, and neither is a dimmer switch if you want the fixture on a dimmer. Plan on assembling the frame first, then having an electrician wire it into place.
