• An open cage, not a drum

  Slim matte black bars form a tapered lantern shape, widest at the top rail and narrowing toward the base, with the inside fully visible from every side. Four candle-style bulbs cluster on a center stem partway down, so nothing hides behind a shade or solid panel.

• Light through open bars

  Because the cage has no shade or glass, light spills out through every open side rather than bouncing off a drum or diffuser. Over a table it looks like an open, airy silhouette by day and a warm cluster of candle points once the bulbs are on.

• Hardwired into a junction box

  This chandelier is hardwired into a ceiling junction box at 120 volts, so it needs an electrician rather than an outlet. It works on a sloped ceiling as well as a flat one, and assembly with a screwdriver is required before it goes up.

• Chain sets the drop

  It hangs from a 72-inch chain, not a fixed rod, and you shorten the drop by removing links rather than sliding a rod through a sleeve. In the larger 17-inch size, overall height can reach 98 inches, tall enough for a two-story foyer as well as a standard dining room.

• Candelabra bulbs, not included

  Each of the four sockets takes a standard E12 candelabra bulb rated up to 60 watts, and bulbs are not included in the box. The cage has no shade to diffuse the glow, so a candle-shaped bulb keeps the look consistent with the open frame. Add a dimmer switch and dimmable bulbs if you want to dim it.

• Damp-rated, still not wet

  This fixture carries a damp rating with ETL and cETL listing, a step up from dry-rated, so it can go over a soaking tub outside direct shower spray or on a covered porch. A damp rating is still not a wet rating, so keep it out of direct rain or a shower stall.

• Dust the bars, skip harsh cleaners

  Dust the open bars with a dry cloth or a soft brush to reach the corners of the frame, and wipe with a barely damp cloth for anything that does not lift with dry dusting. Skip harsh cleaners on the matte black finish, and let the bulbs cool before you dust close to a socket.

• Two sizes, ships unassembled

  The cage, center stem, chain, and canopy arrive ready to assemble with a screwdriver; bulbs are not included, and neither is a dimmer switch if you want the fixture on one. Pick your size before you order, since the 12.5-inch and 17-inch cages are not the same fixture.
