• Boxy shape, small footprint

  The arms, back, and base are all straight and square rather than rolled or curved, so the whole sofa reads as one clean rectangle rather than a fussy shape. At 71.25 inches wide and 32.3 inches deep, it is sized for a real two-seat spot: an apartment living room, a den, or a bedroom sitting area, not a great room that needs a longer piece.

• A fine, nubby chenille weave

  The cover is a light gray chenille with a fine, nubby weave that catches light differently depending on the angle, closer to oatmeal than a flat white gray. Piping runs along every major seam, the arm fronts, cushion edges, and back panels, for a tailored, structured look rather than a slouchy, overstuffed one.

• Legs attach with no tools

  Assembly is limited to the legs, and they thread on by hand: no tools of any kind are needed, not a screwdriver and not an allen key. It ships built as one upholstered piece, only the legs come off, and at 90 pounds it takes two people to carry comfortably.

• Wood frame, spring seat

  The frame is solid wood plus manufactured wood panels underneath the upholstery. Seat cushions are fiber-wrapped foam at 1.7 pounds per cubic foot over sinuous springs and individually pocketed springs, a firmer, longer-lasting base than foam alone. Back cushions and pillows are filled with a cotton and foam blend, softer than the seat, which is why the back gives more than the base does.

• Treated chenille fabric

  The upholstery is chenille, a woven fabric with a soft, slightly fuzzy pile that catches light unevenly, giving it more depth than a flat, smooth weave. It carries a stain-resistant and UV-resistant finish, so color holds up near a sunny window better than an untreated fabric would, and spills are less likely to set in immediately. It is not leather or a performance vinyl, just a treated textile weave.
