• Slats, spindles and arms

  The back is a run of flat horizontal slats under a softly arched crest rail. Under each arm sits a panel of narrow vertical spindles, so the frame stays open and wind and rain pass through instead of pooling. The arms are flat on top and wide enough to hold a mug or a paperback.

• Assembly at home

  Assembly is required. The chairs arrive flat with step by step instructions, the hardware is in the carton and a screwdriver is not, so have one ready. One person can build a chair. Work on a soft surface and leave every bolt loose until the frame is square, then tighten.

• Acacia and the weather

  Frame and legs are solid acacia, listed weather resistant and UV resistant rather than sealed for life. Acacia is a dense hardwood that dries out and greys if it sits in full sun and rain with no upkeep. Treat it as real wood, oil it, and keep it out of extreme heat and cold.

• The seat and the cushions

  Seat height is 18.5 inches off the ground, close to a standard dining chair, so these pull up to a patio table without leaving you low. The seat is 20 inches across and 18.5 inches deep. Each ivory cushion is 3.3 inches thick over a slat seat, with a polyester cover over foam and fibre fill.

• What each chair holds

  Each chair is rated to a 225 pound weight capacity. That is a modest number for outdoor seating, so read it as a real limit rather than a round figure, and do not stand on the seat. The chairs do not swivel and do not recline. Listed product weight is 24 pounds.

• Teak oil and the off season

  Acacia wants teak oil, applied whenever the wood starts to look thirsty, and that one habit is what keeps the colour from going silver. Wipe the frame with mild soap and water first. The cushion covers come off and can be washed. Cover the chairs or store them dry over winter.

• What ships in the box

  Two acacia armchairs and two ivory seat cushions are included, along with the assembly hardware. A screwdriver is not included, and neither is a table, an outdoor cover, or any throw pillow shown in a photo. The pair carries a 90 day limited warranty against defects.
