Broad slats rise from the seat and spread into a softly rounded crown. The armrests are flat and wide, 4.5 inches across, deep enough to hold a mug or a paperback, and the front of the frame is closed by a scalloped apron rather than left open between the legs.

  The color is not a paint layer. It is molded into the high density polyethylene, so a scuff shows the same light gray underneath instead of a pale core. The surface is matte with a fine speckle rather than a pressed woodgrain, and it never needs staining, sealing or a yearly repaint.
