Details

A square bar height table and two swivel stools, sized for a balcony corner rather than a lawn.

  • Bar height, not counter

The table stands 39.8 inches tall and the stools seat at 29.9 inches. That is true bar height, the same rise as a kitchen island overhang, and it is a foot taller than a counter height set. Measure before you buy: at this height a seated adult looks out over a balcony rail instead of through it, which is the whole point, but shorter guests will want the footrest ring and some will still need a step up.

  • What actually ships

Three pieces in the carton: one square table and two swivel bar stools. The spec sheet counts it as a 3 piece set, seating two. Nothing else is required to use it, and no cushions are included because the stools are padded in the sling itself.

  • The swivel, and its weak point

Each stool turns a full 360 degrees on a ball bearing race under the seat. It is the nicest thing about sitting here and the part owners most often report failing. Bearings working loose is the single most common complaint in critical customer reviews. Seat the swivel plate fully and tighten it hard on assembly, then re-check those fasteners after the first week and again each spring.

  • Top: wood look, not wood

The top is a printed wood grain panel set inside a black metal rim, not a plank of timber. It reads as weathered oak from a step away and it will not split or need oiling. Ignore any advice to treat it with wood polish: there is no wood there to feed, and a solvent polish can haze the print.

  • Sun and standing water

This is the honest caveat. Owners in hot, exposed spots report the top bowing slightly in the middle after a season, which lets rain pool rather than run off. A cover, or a spot with afternoon shade, is worth more to this table than any coating. Tip it after heavy rain so water is not left sitting in the centre.

  • Frame and finish

Powder coated steel throughout, in matte black, over an electrophoretic base coat. Rust shows up in a small share of long term reviews, usually at the foot ends where the tubes meet damp ground. Standing the set on pavers rather than soil, and touching up any chip early, is what keeps that from starting.

  • The seat itself

Padded textilene sling, channel stitched across the back and seat, stretched on the frame rather than laid on as a cushion. It sheds water, dries quickly and never needs bringing inside when a shower passes. The back sits fairly upright, which suits eating and working better than lounging.

  • Assembly

Required, and worth planning for. Two people is the manufacturer's own suggestion and the reviews agree. Every tool is in the box. Work on a soft surface, start each bolt by hand before driving it, and leave the frame slightly loose until all the parts are in place so the holes can find each other.

  • Footprint

The top is 27.5 inches square and each stool needs about 26 inches of floor. Allow roughly a 6 by 6 foot patch to pull both stools out and walk behind them. It suits a balcony, a deck corner or a narrow side terrace, which is where most owners put it.

Good to know

  • Tape a 27.5 inch square for the table, then 23.6 by 26.4 inches for each stool.
  • Seat height is 29.9 inches and the table top sits 39.8 inches off the ground.
  • Leave room to pull both stools back and walk behind them, about 6 by 6 feet in all.
