• The rock

  Each chair sits on gently sloped runners rather than legs, so it rocks slowly and evenly on decking or paving. The runners are part of the frame, not an add on.

• The seat and back

  A curved slatted back rises in the classic Adirondack fan, four wide boards to a rounded top. The seat is contoured and its front edge rolls over, so it does not press on the backs of your knees, and a thick crossbar under the seat carries the load.

• Arms you can use

  The armrests are wide and flat, the kind you can set a glass or a mug down on without reaching for the table. Stainless fixings hold them, so nothing rusts where the arm meets the back.

• Built for outdoors

  Chairs and table are high density polyethylene with stainless fixings. The colour runs through the material rather than sitting on top, so it is water, UV and stain resistant and will not crack, chip, peel, splinter or rot.

• Assembly and care

  Assembly is required and listed for one person, with every tool included in the carton. The instructions say to tighten by hand and avoid power tools. Hose the set down to clean it; there is no fabric to launder.
