• Machine woven, low flat pile

  This rug is machine woven from a polypropylene and polyester blend, with the pile kept low at 0.25 inches so it lies flatter than a plush pile rug. That low profile means a door swings clear over it and a dining chair does not catch on the weave.

• Two sizes, both room scale

  Only two sizes are offered: a 9 foot 9 inch by 13 foot 6 inch rectangle and an 11 foot 6 inch by 15 foot rectangle. The smaller size fits a standard living or dining room and the larger fits a great room, so measure your space before ordering since there is no in-between size.

• A jute backing, not a pad

  The backing is jute, a natural woven fiber that grips a hard floor better than a plain fabric backing but is not itself a cushion. A rug pad underneath adds thickness underfoot, stops the corners from curling, and keeps the rug from slipping or creeping out of place over time.

• Flat pile, minimal shedding

  New rugs can hold a slight curl at the edges for the first few days before the weight of furniture helps them relax flat. The low, machine woven pile does not shed loose fibers the way a longer wool pile does while it settles into the floor.

• Living room to home office

  The gallery shows it anchoring a living room seating area, running the length of a bedroom, under a round dining table with the chairs pulled back onto it, and flat in an entryway and a home office. The low pile stands up to daily foot traffic in any of those rooms without flattening into a worn path.

• Vacuum regularly, blot spills

  Vacuum on a regular setting to keep grit out of the low pile, and blot any spill right away with a clean cloth instead of scrubbing it in. Because the backing is jute, avoid soaking the rug or steam cleaning it, since a natural fiber backing that stays wet too long can mildew.

• The rug only, pad not included

  The rug arrives on its own; a rug pad is not included, and nothing else ships with it. Order a pad separately sized to whichever rectangle you choose, and let the rug lie flat for a day before arranging furniture on top of it.
