A bordered flatweave built for the parts of the house that get walked on hardest, indoors or out, in a heathered charcoal field with a black and ivory striped border.

The face is polypropylene, woven flat rather than tufted, so there is no pile to crush or shed. It handles rain and foot traffic the same way it handles a living room floor: one rug, either room.

  Concentric bands step from a charcoal field through a thin ivory line and a stone taupe band to a black outer edge, a bordered geometric pattern rather than a busy print. It's a flat woven polypropylene pile at 0.33 inches, with a matching polypropylene backing on the reverse, so there is no separate layer to peel or crack.

  This ships in one size only, a 13 foot 1 inch square, sized to anchor a full patio, deck, or living room rather than accent a corner of one. Under a sectional or a full seating group, let every piece's front legs rest on the rug so the whole layout reads as one grouping instead of pieces scattered around it.

• Pad indoors, skip it outside

  Indoors, on a hard floor, a rug pad helps this grip and adds a little cushion the flat weave does not have on its own. Outdoors, skip a standard indoor pad: trapped moisture underneath a pad on a patio or deck does the rug no favors, and the polypropylene backing already has some natural grip on wood decking or stone.

• No pile to shed

• Sweep, hose, hang to dry

  Sweep or blow off debris regularly so grit does not grind into the weave underfoot. For a real clean, spray it with a mild soap and water mix, rinse thoroughly with a garden hose, and hang it over a railing to dry all the way through before putting it back down. Rotate it occasionally so wear and sun fading spread evenly.

• Flip it when one side fades
