  This is a flatweave in polypropylene, face and backing both, woven with a slight high low texture rather than printed flat. The pile sits low, so a door clears it and a chair slides back without catching, and the open weave on the underside lets water pass through instead of pooling.

• Size it to the space

  This rug comes in a run of large rectangle sizes for a living room, a dining table or a covered patio. Indoors, pick a size that lets the front legs of the sofa and chairs sit on the rug. Outdoors, leave a foot or so of decking or pavers showing around the edge rather than running it wall to wall.

• A pad helps most indoors

  Indoors on a hard floor, a rug pad is recommended and sold separately: it stops the rug creeping and adds a little cushion under the low flatweave. It takes regular foot traffic well and will not fade the way a printed indoor only rug does in direct sun, though a covered spot keeps it looking newest longest.

• Hose it down, or vacuum

  Outdoors, rinse it with a garden hose to blast out dirt and let it dry in open air rather than propped on a damp deck, which can invite mold. Indoors, vacuum it or spot clean a spill with a clean cloth. Either way, dry it flat or draped over a railing, not folded, so moisture does not sit trapped in the weave.

• What comes with the rug

  The rug ships rolled in its own box. Nothing else is in the box: a rug pad and any furniture shown in the photos are not included. Check your size against the space before it arrives, since a rug this size is awkward to return once it has been used outdoors.
