  The abstract blocks blur into each other instead of stopping sharp, so the gray, taupe and cream ground reads as worn-in rather than printed. Turquoise and deep blue break up the pattern like scattered tile, and there is no border or fringe, just the design running to the rug's edge.

• Vacuum, blot, turn occasionally

  Vacuum regularly so grit does not settle into the pile, and keep the rug out of direct, continuous sun so the color does not fade unevenly. Blot spills right away with a clean cloth rather than rubbing, and skip the wet mop: the jute backing is not made to be soaked. Turn it occasionally so traffic wears it evenly, and call a professional for stains blotting will not lift.

  This is a synthetic polypropylene pile, so it will not shed loose fibers the way a natural fiber rug can. It ships rolled tightly and may hold a crease near the ends at first; give it a few days flat, weighted with furniture, and it settles without any fluffing needed.
