Three seeded-glass shades hang in a line on a gold bar. Hardwired and rod-hung, it takes candelabra bulbs and the hang height adjusts with the included downrods.

The fixture holds three downward lights behind clear seeded-glass shades, 34.5 inches wide. Light drops through the bubbles as a warm wash, so the island reads lit without a cluster of bare lamps in view.

• Bubble glass, brass cones

  Three cone-shaped shades in clear seeded glass hang from a brass bar on two straight rods, each shade flaring wide at the base from a slim brass neck. Tiny bubbles trapped in the glass catch the light and leave the bulb visible inside rather than hidden.

• Light through bubbled glass

  The seeded glass scatters light into small points as it passes through the trapped bubbles, so each shade glows unevenly rather than in one flat wash. Aimed straight down, the three lights focus brightness on the island or table below rather than the room around it.

• Hardwired into a junction box

  This pendant is hardwired into a ceiling junction box, so it needs an electrician rather than an outlet. Assembly is required and calls for a screwdriver, pliers, a ladder, and a wire stripper, reflecting the fixture's width and the work of wiring it in.

• Two rods, two lengths

  It hangs from two rigid rods, not a chain or wire, built from pieces in two lengths, 10 inches and 20 inches, that combine to set the drop. Overall height runs from 25 inches up to 70 inches, covering a low hang over an island or a taller room.

• Candelabra bulbs, not included

  Each of the three sockets is an E12 candelabra base rated up to 40 watts, and bulbs are not included. Because the seeded glass leaves the bulb visible, a decorative filament bulb suits the fixture better than a plain frosted one. Dimming needs a dimmable bulb in every socket plus a separate dimmer switch, both bought on their own.

• Dry-rated, not wet-rated

  This fixture carries a dry-location rating and a UL listing, which covers a dining room, kitchen, or living room that stays dry. A dry rating is not a damp or wet rating, so keep it away from a covered porch, a bathroom, or anywhere steam or rain could reach the glass and sockets.

• Wipe brass, clean glass gently

  Wipe the brass bar and rods with a dry cloth to keep the finish from spotting, and clean the seeded glass shades with mild soap and water rather than an abrasive pad. Turn the fixture off and let the bulbs cool before you dust close to a socket or lift a shade free.

• Ships as parts, no bulbs

  The bar, three glass shades, rod pieces, and canopy arrive ready to assemble with a screwdriver, pliers, a ladder, and a wire stripper; bulbs are not included, and neither is a dimmer switch if you want the fixture on one. Plan on an electrician for the hardwired connection.
