  Machine woven from polypropylene, a fiber that resists stains rather than absorbing them, so a spill sits on top long enough to blot up instead of soaking in. The pile is low and dense at 0.38 inches, kept flat rather than plush.

  The rug comes in two sizes, a 9 by 12 foot rectangle and a 10 by 14 foot rectangle, both built to fill a real room rather than sit as a small accent. The larger size fits a great room or an open dining and living area; measure first, since there is no size between them.

• Jute grips, a pad helps more

  The backing is jute, a natural fiber that grips a hardwood or tile floor better than a plastic coated backing, but it is not cushioned. Add a rug pad underneath for extra cushion, to stop the corners from curling, and to keep the rug from slipping or creeping when it gets walked on.

• Expect a few days to settle

  New rugs can hold a slight curl at the edges for the first few days until they settle flat under furniture. It is machine woven from a synthetic fiber, so it does not shed loose fibers the way a hand knotted wool rug does while it breaks in.

  Vacuum regularly to lift dust and grit from the low pile, and blot spills right away with a clean cloth rather than rubbing them in, though the stain resistant fiber gives you time to react. Rotate the rug every so often so foot traffic and sunlight wear it evenly across both sizes.

• The rug only, no pad included

  The rug arrives on its own; a rug pad is not included, and nothing else ships with it. Order a pad separately sized to whichever rectangle you choose, then let it lie flat for a day before you set furniture on it.
