  The beige is woven from two blended tones instead of one flat dye, cream and taupe mixed together in a soft, cloud-like mottle. It reads as lived-in from the first day rather than freshly printed, with a slim self-edge and no fringe along the sides.

• Vacuum, blot spills, stays clean

  Vacuum regularly to keep grit from working into the base of the pile. Because the fiber is rated stain resistant, a fresh spill tends to sit on the surface rather than soak in, so blotting it with a clean cloth right away is usually enough.

• Machine woven, 0.5 inch pile

  Woven on a loom from polypropylene, a fiber built to resist stains rather than absorb them. The pile measures 0.5 inches, low enough to sit flat under most doors and dense enough to hold its shape under furniture rather than crushing flat.

• A pad adds grip, cushion

  A rug pad is not included. The jute backing already grips a hard floor better than a plain synthetic backing would, but a pad still helps keep the corners flat and adds a bit more cushion underfoot, especially on tile or hardwood where the rug sees a lot of foot traffic.

• No heavy shedding, settles fast

  Machine woven polypropylene does not shed heavily the way a wool pile can, so there is little loose fiber to vacuum up when it is new. It ships rolled and can hold a curl at the ends for a day or two; weighting it flat with furniture settles it quickly.

  This rug comes in two sizes: a 9 by 12 foot rectangle and a larger rectangle at 10 by roughly 13 feet. The 9 by 12 anchors a standard living room group or a queen bed, while the bigger size suits a larger living room or a full dining table and still leaves room for the chairs to slide back without catching.
