  Upholstery is velvet over a solid and manufactured wood frame. On the black finish, galvanized silver nailheads outline the wings. Pleating and hand tufting keep the headboard face crisp.

  A wood slat kit ships with the bed, so a box spring is not required. Bolt-on rails keep the mattress from shifting, and hook-and-loop strips hold the slats in place.

  Center support legs sit under the platform for balanced load. An EVA silent bar and fastener strips cut friction in the frame so the bed stays quieter through the night.

• Care for the velvet

  Vacuum the upholstery with the beater bar off. Blot spills right away with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid soaking the fabric and skip harsh cleaners that can flatten the pile.

  Plan on two people; tools and hardware ship in the carton. You receive the headboard, footboard, side rails, and wood slat kit. Queen ships at about 109 pounds; King about 119 pounds.
