The pile sits low and tight at 0.39 inches, flecked and ribbed like a natural fiber, with a fringed edge woven into the same construction on all four sides rather than sewn on after.

• Two full-room rectangles

  Churnet ships in two rectangle sizes, and the smaller of the two already covers a full room rather than sitting as an accent. In a living room, set the sofa's front legs on the rug to anchor the seating; on a covered patio, size it to the footprint of the furniture it sits under, with a little floor showing at the edges.

• A pad is still worth it

  An indoor/outdoor rug pad is recommended under Churnet to help prevent slipping and to extend the life of the weave, even though the backing already offers some grip on a hard indoor floor. Outdoors, a pad made for outdoor use adds a layer of cushion underfoot and protects the surface beneath it.
