Bremhaus Melindwr Oriental Area Rug

A faded Oriental medallion in blue and grey, woven to survive a porch as easily as a living room, on a pile low enough to clear almost any door.

The medallion motif is rendered worn rather than crisp, slate blue against a soft grey ground, so the rug reads like something inherited rather than something bought new.

• A faded medallion in blue

A blue Oriental medallion is rendered worn rather than crisp, floating on a soft grey ground with matching cornerpieces stacked into wide nested borders. The faded treatment makes it read like something that has been in the room a while, not something fresh off a shelf.

• A flatweave, indoors or out

Both the face and the backing are polypropylene, woven flat rather than tufted into a plush pile; the pile measures just 0.13 inches, closer to a woven mat than a rug you sink into. That construction is what lets it handle water and sun outside as easily as a living room floor.

• A rectangle or a round

The rug comes in a 10 by 14 foot rectangle or a 13 foot 1 inch round, both sized to anchor a living or dining room rather than sit as a small accent. The round fits a smaller entry or nook; the rectangle fits a larger seating or dining layout.

• A pad still helps here

The backing is polypropylene rather than jute, rubber or latex, so on its own it has only moderate grip on a hard floor. A rug pad underneath adds cushion, keeps the flat weave from slipping or creeping underfoot, and helps the corners lie flat instead of curling up.

• Minimal shedding, settles fast

Because both the pile and backing are machine woven polypropylene rather than a tufted natural fiber, this rug sheds very little loose fiber even in the first weeks. New rugs can hold a slight crease near the edges at first, and it should relax and flatten out within a few days once it settles under furniture.

• Living room to a covered porch

The gallery shows it grounding a living room around a low coffee table, softening a bedroom floor by the bed, centering a dining room under a round table with the chairs staying on the rug, and lying flat in an entryway and a home office. Rated indoor or outdoor, the same rug also holds up to a covered porch and daily traffic.

• Vacuum, no beater bar

Vacuum with suction only and skip the beater bar or rotating brush, since a spinning brush can pull at the woven loops of a flatweave instead of just lifting dust. Blot any spill with a clean cloth; the fiber is stain and water resistant, so it can also be rinsed off outdoors and left to dry.

• The rug only, no pad included

Only the rug itself arrives, in the size chosen at checkout; a rug pad is not included, and nothing else ships with it.

Good to know

• Rectangle 10x14 suits a living or dining room; the round works a smaller entry or nook.
• Under a dining table, allow the chairs to stay on the rug when pulled out.
• On a covered porch, the low pile sits flat under a door sweep.
